Kindergarten Grad Party!

This week, I had the pleasure of creating a graduation party for two awesome graduates! They worked so hard to get where they are today and go on to bigger and better things...and by bigger and better, I mean FIRST GRADE. That's right! Owen and Jet, Kindergarten Class of 2015!

Party Specifics:
Theme - graduation/scholastic
Color scheme - red, white, black & gold.
Food and activities - ice cream sundae bar, root beer floats & cookies, "schools's out" photobooth, chalk art tables & party games.

The decorations for this party may or may not have been subliminally influenced by and through watching back to back episodes of Saved by the Bell. I joked with my husband and best friend that the display table area looked a little bit like a junior high dance from the 80's. We all got a laugh out of that! Despite it looking a little bit like a blast from the past, I think it turned out great!

I started out by creating a backdrop for the display table. I did this with twine, black and white crape paper and tape. I tied twine to the plantation shutters, straight across, tightly. Starting in the middle, I folded one end of a strip of crape paper over the twine and fastened it with tape. Making sure it was straight, I also taped at the bottom of the wall right where the wall meets the carpet. I did this in a black and white striped pattern.

To dress up the backdrop I hand made a gold star garland and two bright banners.

I put red table cloths on two rectangular tables to contrast with the black and white. I handmade a black, white and gold tassel garland and attached it to the front of the tables. To do this I threaded a needle and poked it through the table cloth on one side of the table, put all the tassels on, re-threaded the needle and poked another hole through the table cloth on the other side. To keep both sides of the thread securely fastened to the table, I tied it to the leg and taped it down. All the "workings" were under the table and out of sight.

I was so excited to find these adorable, little chalkboard signs! They worked great for adding smart little sayings to the design ;)

For the guest tables, I threw on some black table cloths (again for the contrast) on 3 round tables and taped them to the underside. The great thing about the solid black table cloths is that you can draw with chalk on them! Yep! Instant chalkboard tables!

The tables were a hit! So was the ice cream sundae bar. We had chocolate and vanilla ice cream with lots of yummy toppings: Oreos, chocolate sprinkles, mini M&M's, Andies mint bits, chocolate chips, Reese's pieces, and Heath bits! We topped the toppings with carmel and chocolate sauce. Did I mention we also had two kinds of chewy cookies? Yeah, we all got chocolate wasted!

One of my favorite parts of the day was the "schools out!" photobooth! It was so fun to see all the kids dress up in silly summer things and pose excitedly for a quick picture. I got all the props from the Dollar Tree. They have some great stuff! Here are some of my favorite shots:

Overall, the party was a success! It was a lot of fun and most importantly I got to spend it with my own little graduate!

"Schooooool's out! For the summa!"
